About Us - Larry Nelson, President, C.E.O.

After graduating from the University of Texas School of Architectural Engineering, Larry worked as an engineer for the E.I. Dupont Company before serving a tour of duty in Vietnam with the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Upon completing his military service, Larry returned to Austin and worked as a staff engineer for the architectural design firm of Lundgren & Maurer.

In 1967, Larry and his father, H.E. Nelson, founded Nelson Construction Company. Some of the company's first contracts included a number of commercial remodel projects, some residential work, an office building for the Texas Association of Realtors, and several capital improvement projects for Austin's Parks and Recreation Department. Since then, Larry has built over 5 million square feet of commercial space in Austin and southern California. This work includes 59 industrial/service centers, 25 office buildings, 18 retail strip centers and a variety of other projects.

Committed to the industries that continue to build Austin and Central Texas, Larry was the founding president of the Central Texas Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors. This organization is based on the "shared belief that construction projects should be awarded on merit to the most qualified and responsible low bidders."

Larry has seen Austin grow from a quiet mid-sized college town, to one of the fastest growing and most popular cities in the United States. The promising prospect of renewed economic prosperity prompted the launching of Nelson Development Company in 2003.
